The light of day

Hm, not quite sure what to say about this book; The light of day by Graham Swift. I both liked and disliked it; it confused me, but it was something intriguing about it that I can’t quite put my finger on.

We hear the story of a man, George, who used to be a cop, but is now a private detective. The story tells us about his parents, his wife and his daughter. It tells us about some cases he has had. It tells us of the woman he visit’s is prison every fortnight. In some ways it’s a fasinating story.

I picked this book out of my book-jar, it’s one of the 1001 books. I didn’t know what I was getting into… I found the story hard to follow at times because it seems to jump from story to story. At the same time it’s all in George’s head in many ways. It’s his thoughts about everything, all the stories that together make up him.

It’s the first book I’ve read by Graham Swift, but I have a feeling that I won’t be reading any more books by him in the nearest future. The book just wasn’t to my taste; not everything can be 😉
